The first day at school.

They are at Sandwich Technology School.  
Oliver Preston is 14. He's in 9C and he's the reporter for the school magazine.
Shanti Patel is 13 1/2 (and a half). She's in 9C too and she's the photographer.
Alwena Jarrett is 13. She's in 8B and she's a new pupil. She's nervous / stressed because it's the first day of school.
Oliver is bossy so Shanti is laughing at him.

Alwena is a new pupil so she is nervous / worried / stressed because she doesn't know anyone.

The City of Sandwich in England

Sandwich is a small town in Kent, South-East England.

It is said that John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, asked his servant for a meal he could hold in one hand while playing cards or working at his desk. The valet brought him a slice of meat between two slices of bread, and that was the first sandwich.

However, nobody knows if this story is really true.
