Poppy Day

Poppy Day, also called Remembrance Day, commemorates the armistice of the 1st World War, which occured on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (11:00 AM on 11th November) 1918.

On this day, people wear a red poppy and observe one or two minute's silence. Ceremonies are organised at local war memorials, and poppy wreaths are laid.

Poppies have become the symnol of this day because of the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae.

Mid-term elections in the US

American people have voted yesterday. But who or what did they vote for?

They have elected their representatives in Congress: all  435 members of the House of Representatives and one third (1/3) of the US Senators.

Many states also elect a new Governor during mid-term elections.
