PRL: can

Can est un auxiliaire modal. Il sert à dire ce que l'on sait faire.
Pour dire ce que je ne sais pas faire, j'utilise can't.
Pour demander à quelqu'un ce qu'il sait faire, j'utilise Can you... ?
Can est toujours suivi d'un verbe non conjugué = une base verbale

What can you do?

I can play the drums very well.
I can cook quite well.
I can speak English a little.
I can't play basketball at all.
Can you paint? Yes, I can / No, I can't.
can't = cannot

What can you do?

Can you play basketball?
I can cook very well.
I can play the guitar quite well.
I can paint a little.
I can't / cannot speak Italian at all.

Max, Ganesh and the PE teacher - part 2

The PE teacher can't draw because he is not the Art teacher.
Can he play football? Yes, he can.
Can Ganesh draw? We don't know.

Can you do sports?

Max can ride a bike and he can draw but he can't surf and he can't skate.
Can Max play football? I don't know.
Ganesh can surf, he can skate, he can ski and he can play football.

He is the PE teacher, not the Art teacher so he can't draw but he can play football.

Suzy, Jerry and Mason are in a diner. Jerry is late.
Suzy is Jerry's cousin. She's from San Francisco but she lives in Silver Spring now.
Suzy would like 1 scoop of vanilla ice-cream and a slice of apple pie.
Jerry will have a chocolate and walnut brownie and a strawberry milkshake.
Mason is not very hungry so he doesn't want / take anything.
Mason is thirsty, so he'll have a soda, a 7-UP.
Jerry and Suzy don't take anything to drink.
