Barrack Obama invited Donald Trump to the White House because Trump is the President Elect. Maybe Obama wants to give Trump a tour of the White House, and give him responsabilities.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an American holiday. It takes place on the 4th Thursday in November, every year.

Thanksgiving is a celebration of how the Pilgrim Fathers, the first settlers from Europe, got help from the Indian tribes when they arrived in the New World.

Many of the settlers died during the first year after their arrival in Plymouth (in 1620). They were in an unknown place, and did not know how to cultivate the land, or what animals to hunt for food. Moreover, the weatherwas much colder than in England.
Fortunately, the Wampanoag Indians who lived nearby came to help. They taught the settlers how to grow corn, how to fish and hunt, and many other things. They helped them build houses.

In Autumn 1621, at harvest (= récolte) time, the Pilgrims were happy and thankful to have a good crop of corn, and enough food to last through the long and cold winter.
They decided to have a celebration, and to thank God and the Indians for what they had received.

They had a holiday (they did not work that day), a religious ceremony and a big meal to which they invited the Indians.

Today, Thanksgiving is a 4-day family holiday. Families and friends get together from all over the country and have a big meal to celebrate. 

For Thanksgiving dinner, people generally eat turkey with stuffing and gravy, corn, carrots, mashed potatoes, green beans, butternut squash, cranberry sauce, bread rolls, apple pie and pumpkin pie.

Sometimes there is also ham and sweet potatoes. In fact, there are as many Thanksgiving meals as there are families!

Traditional Thanksgiving symbols include the turkey, live or roasted, the Pilgrim hat and bonnet and the cornucopia as well as autumn fruits and vegetables (such as corn, squashes, pumpkins, apples or grapes).

Thanksiving also marks the beginning of the holiday season, with Christmas and the New Year following closely.
