Australia Day
Today is
People celebrate the arrival of the first fleet (ships) and settlers in Port Jackson (now Sydney).
It is a bank holiday, so people have a day off (a one day holiday), and they go for a picnic in the park or they spend time with their family and friends.
There are fireworks, and the Australian of the Year Awards Ceremony is held. There are also citizenship ceremonies, to welcome new Australians.

Martin Luther King Jr Day
Today, Americans celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's birthday.
It is on the 3rd Monday of January every year. It is a bank holiday in the USA: schools, shops, banks are all closed. Instead, people take the time to volunteer in charities or simply help their neigbours and friends.
This is called Martin Luther King Day of Service.
Martin Luther King was born on 15th January 1929. He was a Civil Rights activist. He fought against the segragation and in the US. He received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1964 for his combat against racial inequalities.
He is the speaker of the famous "I have a dream" speech in Washington in 1963.
He was assassinated on 4th April 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.
